Introducing Robert Doane, AEMP, L.Ac.
Robert Doane has truly shaped the future of modern Traditional Chinese medicine. As the creator of Medical Pulse Diagnosis® (MPD®) and Distal Needling Acupuncture® (DNA®), his methods form the foundation of treatment at our clinic. Robert’s life has had many turns, and was shaped by a deep curiosity about how health can be restored when the body’s systems are understood clearly and treated precisely. Before Chinese medicine, Robert’s life was touched by science, meditation, and business. Read on to learn more about Robert’s journey to holistic health.
Pioneering Techniques
Over 30 decades of clinical experience, Robert Doane developed two of the most advanced Chinese medical diagnostic and treatment strategies available today. Both Medical Pulse Diagnosis® and Distal Needling Acupuncture® are practiced and taught around the world, and practitioners are frequently seen shadowing at our clinic to learn these techniques.
Medical Pulse Diagnosis® (MPD®)
This diagnostic method allows practitioners to feel a patient’s right and left radial arteries and tell where the imbalances and inefficiencies are throughout the body, providing the basis for all treatment.
Distal Needling Acupuncture® (DNA®)
This approach to acupuncture is more effective in eliminating pain. Unlike local needing, needles are placed away from the area of pain, causing less irritation and resulting in greater relief.
Workshops & Seminars
Both Medical Pulse Diagnosis® and Distal Needling Acupuncture® are practiced and taught around the world. Robert founded Doane Online Education, an accredited online university where practitioners can learn MPD®, DNA®, and herbal medicine. He travels all over the world teaching these methods, and frequently hosts seminars and workshops in his clinic.

Early Life
Born in 1947, Robert Doane grew up in Alaska, living in both Wrangell and Fairbanks. In these humble beginnings, he spent his days hunting, fishing, and started to develop a passion for science. After moving to Poulsbo, Washington and graduating from high school, Robert decided to pursue this passion at a higher level.
Physics & Spirituality
Robert attended the University of Washington, becoming the first person in his family to pursue higher education. Despite his interest in science, Robert was introduced to the art of meditation while in school, and quickly embraced this new interest. He decided to join the Transcendental Meditation movement after graduating from UW.

After graduation, Robert travelled to India and trained directly under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, one of the leading masters of Transcendental Meditation at the time. There, he excelled in spiritual practice, and quickly became one of the movement’s first full-time instructors of Transcendental Meditation in the United States. Over the next decade, Robert lived a monastic life, teaching meditation all over the world. he often dove deep into 6-month periods of complete silence and almost constant meditation.
Going into Business
After monastic life, Robert started a news station in Hollywood called the “Age of Enlightenment News” on behalf of the TCM movement, but then left the movement to operate three oil brokerage firms in Houston Texas. He quickly decided this path was not for him and retired shortly after.
A New Path…
In 1992, Robert finally met his wife Anne in Miami. Together, they discovered their shared passion for holistic health and attended Chinese medical school in Santa Barbara. There, Robert cultivated his true purpose: helping people through natural medicine.
The Final Chapter
In 1998, Robert and Anne opened the Acupuncture and Wellness Center. What began as a small practice grew rapidly, becoming one of the largest Chinese medical clinics in the United States by the early 2000s. Over decades of clinical work, Robert also developed Medical Pulse Diagnosis® and Distal Needling Acupuncture®, methods now taught worldwide.
