Robert and Anne Doane opened the Acupuncture and Wellness Center in Poulsbo, Washington in 1998. With their advanced treatment strategies, it soon grew to become one of the largest Chinese medical clinics in the United States.

A Chance Encounter
Robert Doane and Anne Stiller met in 1992 in Miami, Florida at a macrobiotic bed and breakfast. Despite their difference in cultural backgrounds, their shared love of health and wellness created an instant connection! They soon after tied the knot and have been together ever since.
Furthering Education
Together, the pair discovered a passion for acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. They attended the College of Oriental Medicine in Santa Barbara, California, with dreams of starting their own clinic someday. Here they are weighing out Chinese herbs in their school’s herbal room!
Hard at work!
Robert and Anne worked very hard at Chinese medical school, and quickly mastered traditional acupuncture points as well as herbal formulas. At the same time, they continued to research ways to innovate and modernize ancient techniques.
Two graduates
Robert and Anne finally graduated with master’s degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Even though they were sad to leave Santa Barbara, they could finally pursue their dream of opening a clinic and helping patients with everything they learned.

An Instant Success

Robert and Anne opened the Acupuncture and Wellness Center in Poulsbo, Washington in 1998. The clinic was an instant success! At first, they were worried that nobody would sign up because of how Chinese medicine is misunderstood in western culture. But through their hard work, it wasn’t long before the pair were treating 30 patients a day. They even started to be featured in local news!
A New Building
“With their growing army of believers...they’re now looking forward to the future in their new home.”In 2004, Robert and Anne’s clinic grew to 40,000 patients. The largest in Washington State! So, they broke ground on an empty site in Poulsbo and started constructing their dream clinic with 8 treatment rooms. This big step proved to them that Chinese medicine truly helps people.
Learning the Pulse
“Doane can make a diagnosis almost entirely through the pulse...he can work like a detective, asking questions about symptoms and the patient’s situation.”With the clinic doing well, Robert Doane begins to define his unique method of Medical Pulse Diagnosis® (MPD®), which takes ancient pulse techniques and modernizes them for today’s patients. It’s effectiveness was even published in the Kitsap Peninsula Business Journal.
